Our concert F# minor flute is that haunting, traditional flute that you hear on many of today’s albums. I particularly think of this flute as a solo instrument in that its not the one I would normally pick up to play a modern tune on. I have however accompanied the F# minor on my own albums with guitar and other instruments. It’s a relative A major, which can work well with many songs. The finger spread is 5-15/16″, center-to-center, top to bottom finger hole.
Our concert flutes feature a precision nest under the bird. The nest enhances the performance by giving you a really alive, present voice that can handle big breath extremes. It’s really hard to overblow these flutes, even with a heavy vibrato. These are the famous flutes that you hear on many of today’s native American style flute albums.
Our concert flutes are built using a superior one piece construction method. This gives you a more solid flute without any delamination concerns which some two-piece flutes face. Drilling is also very accurate in as much as I can bore down the center of the flute +/- .002″, or ½ the thickness of a $1 bill. Drilling also makes for a prettier flute without the glue lines.
Our flutes have a 6 hole, extended range tuning. This is sometimes called a Mode 1-Mode 4 tuning. They have a total of 15 notes, covering an octave plus a minor third. They also cover a 12 tone chromatic octave within the 15 note scale. This is the standard tuning used by most flute makers. A finger chart is included with your new flute, showing exactly how to achieve each of the 15 notes.
Our flutes have a hand-rubbed finish that includes four hand sandings, four coats of finish (inside and out) and a final steel wool rub. This process takes over four weeks. You’ll feel and see the difference our finishing effort makes.

I got bitten by the bug. Having fallen in love with my Little Bird A minor and E minor concert, I wanted to try flutes in other keys. I recently had trouble deciding between the G Minor and F# minor, but I liked Butch’s flutes so much, I wanted to stick with his. I ended up with both. The F# does indeed have that haunting, traditional sound that you hear on many Carlos Nakai albums, that evokes Native traditions and the canyons of the desert Southwest. I love this flute. It’s impeccably crafted. Once I start playing it, it’s hard to stop. I love playing it at home, especially in the morning or evening. It’s extremely meditative and peaceful. I also can’t wait to take it to Echo Canyon in northern New Mexico. It’s amazing that through Butch you can get such a professional, great-sounding instrument at such a reasonable cost.

My F# Minor reached me a couple of days ago and what a beauty it is to look at, to hold and to play !
I am hooked on the Butch Hall Flutes. Its finish is perfect (and I mean it) and its sound is so pure, deep and soothing. Besides, its intonation is most accurate and its articulation is precise, light and crisp. A five-star flute delivering everything we dream of a F#Minor Concert NAsF.
It came impeccably packaged for a long journey (I live in Brazil) with all the Butch´s family attention and care.
Honestly, it was love at first sight and at first breath.

Hello Hall family, I received my F# concert flute yesterday and it was not a disappointment like so many others have been. This flute sings with such a clear and beautiful voice. I like that the finish is not put on thick like so many other makers. I can get a better seal with my fingers on the holes of your flute since the edge of each hole is clean, smoothly cut and sanded to perfection. Thank you so much for this quality instrument that’s simple in form and not overly embellished, after all, it’s about the voicing of the flute and how it makes you feel when playing it. You’ve crafted an affordable, finely made flute for those of us that appreciate simplicity and function. This will undoubtedly be my favorite flute to play for many years in the future.
Best regards, Linda Laine

I am not an experienced player at all, having only one other little 5 hole flute that I play a diddy on once in a while. I decided that it was time to upgrade. I like lower tones and the sound clips, detailed description and reviews helped me to decide on getting the F# minor in Eastern Red Cedar.
The package arrived and I was so pleased with the presentation and care that had been put into it. When I took my flute out, I just smelled the cedar aroma and rubbed the gorgeous smooth finish for a long time before even trying to play it! Then when I played a couple of notes, I knew that I had made the right choice. Thank you for such a pleasant shopping experience on your well designed website, and for creating a wonderful addition to my life!

I now have 5 of the Butch Hall Flutes (Concert A, G, F#, E, D) and obviously am a big fan. Their flutes are are beautifully finished and are so smooth to the touch. But it’s the sound and playability that I like. Even on the Low D that I have, I can use a strong breath and keep the lowest note clear with good volume. Another thing I like about their flutes is how easy it is to roll a note for that yawning, bluesy effect. I’d probably have a Low C, too, but there currently aren’t any in stock!

Hi Laura,
I just received the flute today and must say that I am totally blown away! In my 13 years of playing Native American Style Flute I have not seen its like in terms of craftsmanship, tone, and playability. I will definitely be purchasing from you again!
Many thanks!

I will be owning one of of every key! I love everything about this line of flutes. I own a number of flutes and these are the favorite above all. I also agree with all the other reviews written here as well. One thing to add to the above reviews is that these flutes are a great gift for anyone because they are so easily played. You will not be disappointed.

Took ten minutes to fall in love with this flute. It’s a work of art, beauty in simplicity. The mouthpiece is the most comfortable I’ve experienced, the plate gives a clear, crisp, musical note, and it is a haunting and ethereal musical instrument. I can’t stop playing it. Very reasonably priced. Well done!

I love my new flute! It plays very well, the elegance and craftsmanship are immediately noticable along with the lovely scent of the flute itself. I was pleasantly surprised by the two tone color and marbled plate. I suffer from anxiety, and the F# has the perfect voice to calm me down and clear my head. Thank you Butch and Laura for selecting this work of art for me.

This is a beautiful flute. The sound is very haunting, very rich with depth. Plays as good as it sounds. No frills. A magnificent instrument. I adore the hand rubbed finish. I believe that the plate under the bird is really the right way to go. The clarity is beyond reproach.

I discovered Butch Hall flutes a few weeks ago and became addicted to them. I love their pure aesthetic, the perfect sound, soft and warm. A magnificent job !
I live in France and unfortunately they cannot be found in my country. The best Native American flute makers are in the USA.
At my request, Laura arranged for me to receive my flutes quickly and in the best conditions. I am delighted ! This model in F# corresponds perfectly to my expectations.
Thank you Laura Hall for your seriousness and your kindness. Thank you Butch Hall for the excellent quality of your flutes.
Warmly
