Our D minor concert flute is a very low bass flute, in the larger 1-1/4″ bore. It’s a relative F major, which is a great contemporary scale.

The D minor finger spread has a challenging reach at 6-7/8″ for small hands, but a comfortable reach for normal size hands.

Our concert flutes feature a precision nest under the bird. The nest enhances the performance by giving you a really alive, present voice that can handle big breath extremes. It’s really hard to overblow these flutes, even with a heavy vibrato. These are the famous flutes that you hear on many of today’s native American style flute albums.

Our concert flutes are built using a superior one piece construction method. This gives you a more solid flute without any delamination concerns which some two-piece flutes face. Drilling is also very accurate in as much as I can bore down the center of the flute +/- .002″, or ½ the thickness of a $1 bill. Drilling also makes for a prettier flute without the glue lines.

Our flutes have a 6 hole, extended range tuning. This is sometimes called a Mode 1-Mode 4 tuning. They have a total of 15 notes, covering an octave plus a minor third. They also cover a 12 tone chromatic octave within the 15 note scale. This is the standard tuning used by most flute makers. A finger chart is included with your new flute, showing exactly how to achieve each of the 15 notes.

Our flutes have a hand-rubbed finish that includes four hand sandings, four coats of finish (inside and out) and a final steel wool rub. This process takes over four weeks. You’ll feel and see the difference our finishing effort makes.

    Dear Laura, Butch and Rachael,
I want to thank you all for the wonderful flutes you’ve just sent me!
Now I have four of your great-sounding instruments for my recordings.
I especially want to let you know how much I appreciate the D flute!!!
It sounds perfect. And what a wonderful surprise to see the fantastic
inlay work you’ve done!!! I have a special place in my heart for the
saguaro cactus. I’ve had a few really unforgettable experiences and
adventures among these great spirits of the Sonora Desert. It’s like
you’ve read my heart and sent me a most appropriate gift. _I consider it
a special blessing from you to me._
After receiving these flutes, I explored your website further, looking
at the picture albums of your family and friends. This connection to you
makes my new flutes (friends) even more special.
I consider your flutes to be the only ones I’d ever want to own. I can’t
imagine anything better. As merchants, my wife, Suzanne and I have
stocked and sold some very nice flutes in the past, and i think we know
a little bit about other flutes. I’ve kept a few of the best from our
stock for myself. But yours are different… I feel so blessed that I
tuned-in to your flutes when I was searching the internet for something
    better. I love the way they sound; I love the way they look and feel;
and I love the way they smell, even!!!
    Thank you again. May you prosper well in peace, health and happiness;
knowing your great contribution to so many.

Your Padauk D Minor arrived Thursday as expected. It is beautiful, both
in appearance and voice. Now that we have a number of flutes (from a
variety of makers) and are filling in our collection for Paula and I to
play duets, we do not typically buy without playing them together first
to make sure they play well with each other. Based on our experience with
your flutes we purchased from festivals, we were confident in ordering
online. We tried first playing with our favorite "A minor" and it was
spot on (just like our other Butch Hall flutes), right out of the box.
We love it. Still loving the E minor Coyote Wood, Wolf carved flute we
    got at Yosemite!

Thanks again for the great flutes and service.

    Hello!,
Received the flute moments ago. Could hardly wait to get it out of the box! Incredible that it should get here so soon and be so beyond my expectations! Thank you for bringing such a magnificent piece of joy into my life. Fantastic sound and made every bit as good as all of the high praising reviewers have said. Well done and Thank You!

I mistakenly wrote my review on the E minor flute but meant to do it for this D minor (Senior Moment!). I love the sound and playability of this D. I thought it might be too big for my small to medium hands but decided to order it anyway, and am glad I did. It fits just fine. What really amazes me about this D is that the low notes, even the lowest, does not over blow. I have an E from another maker that easily – too easily – over blows on the lowest note. Not this Butch Hall Concert D. The note stays clean and clear and resonant. This is my first Butch Hall flute but because of the quality combined with the afford-ability, I am going to buy the Concert A, G & F# over the next couple of months.

I owned a D Minor flute made by you in 2009. It was a dream come true, and beautiful in every way. Unfortunately, I just lost it to the hurricane, along with everything else. When we get to the step where we purchase the things we want, after what we need, the first thing on my list is your flute in the same note. That’s how beautiful it is. That’s how much I love your craftsmanship.
Anyone wanting a high quality, beautiful sounding flute, these are it!

I wanted to write and commend your on the great service you all provide to your customers, friends and prospective customers. I am a collector and love NAF flutes and found a used one that had been owned by someone who passed away. The family was selling it and I sent an inquiry as to the value of the flute to make sure I received a fair price.
Laura responded promptly with great information to help me make a decision on the purchase. I was so impressed by the quick replies, and helpful information that I will definitely be buying and playing more Butch Hall Flutes in the future.
Not only are you buying a well made, well tuned flute, but your dealing with great, helpful people that truly care about others and based on my experience will be there for you when needed. Your help will not be forgotten Laura, Thank You.

After the package has crossed the Atlantic, it’s a great pleasure when a delivery man rings at your door to bring you your new Butch Hall flute !

This flute in D minor is superb. The sound is soft, light and deep, my family is unanimous ! Cherry wood brings a warm color.

A Butch Hall flute, a summer sun and a gentle wind on your face. What more could you ask for to be happy ?!

    🙂
