  • From Stephen Kusch on "Rainmaker" Anasazi Style Flute

The Rainmaker has become one of my favorite flutes to play (the other being a Butch Hall F# m flute). I have not had success playing it “shakuhachi style”, but the oblique method works beautifully, and when I get the embouchure just right, the flute seems to come alive in my hands (i.e. I feel a vibration). The low and middle octaves are easy (of course, after practice!), and with a little overblowing I can play about half of a higher octave. By starting one note up from the root note, or higher, you can produce really interesting scales or modes. It is a wonderful flute for playing really free, meditative improvisations.
  • From Vincent (me again lol) on E Minor Concert Flute

I have already written two comments on this flute, then I will calm down a bit otherwise my overflowing enthusiasm would flood the site lol!

After a few months of use, I have only had positive feedback. People also notice the beauty of the wood (red cedar) a lot, especially since the flute was made with a first choice piece.

This is an opportunity for me to thank Laura once again for having selected me a flute with “shimmering” colors!

You can’t imagine how much your flutes put me in a good mood. šŸ™‚

  • From David & Nancy Sayers on "Little Bird" b Minor Flute

Just received the Little Bird flute. It was well packed and shipped very fast. We were very impressed with the workmanship and the tone was unbelievable at the price point.
Both of us have smaller hands and arthritis so the hole spacing is absolutely perfect, the frustration is all gone. Highly recommended.

  • From Clarence on E Minor Concert Flute

    Very powerful flute! Gorgeous!

  • From Vincent on Mother Earth and Father Sky Songbook

I have just studied this booklet and it has helped me a lot in my progress ! Great !

  • From Vincent on E Minor Concert Flute

I follow up on my previous comment written a little over a year ago.
I just received a new cedar E minor flute and everything is perfect, like all Butch Hall flutes !
Here is a list of what I like:
    – original and interesting idea, the flute has a precision nest under the bird which makes the sound very pure and protects the mouthpiece of the flute
    – the sound is very clean, very clear and powerful ; the stamp is very little windy; even with very little blowing, the notes are always perfectly in tune
    – the flute is easy to handle and does not have too large a diameter, which makes playing and handling easier and more pleasant
    – the wood is beautiful
    – the flutes have a clean and pure aesthetic
    – Butch Hall is a passionate craftsman who gives real soul to the flute
    – we find the true characteristic sound of native American flutes

Laura perfects everything with her kindness.

Now I understand why many professional artists use Butch Hall flutes !

Thank you for your work !

  • From tim on G Minor Concert Flute

    Dear Butch and Laura,

Just a note to let you know my G Minor Concert Cedar flute arrived safely yesterday. I couldn’t be more satisfied, thank you.

This flute is EXACTLY what I was seeking. It sings with the pure, doleful and sweet cedar voice that first drew me to this instrument through the early works of Nakai. I do own and play several hardwood native flutes–which have their own unique voices and virtues–but the Butch Hall Concert Cedar flute is an indispensable classic instrument that delivers the plaintive and soft (yet focused) signature tone of the indigenous flute of the Americas. It is beautifully simple of construction, well-tuned, and made to a high standard of craftsmanship, without all of the decorative bling-bling that can make other flutes so expensive. As a musician, I am after sound first, and playability, both of which this instrument delivers in abundance, at a most reasonable cost. I would not hesitate to concertize or record with this flute.

    Thanks,

    Timothy

  • From Vincent on D Minor Concert Flute

After the package has crossed the Atlantic, it’s a great pleasure when a delivery man rings at your door to bring you your new Butch Hall flute !

This flute in D minor is superb. The sound is soft, light and deep, my family is unanimous ! Cherry wood brings a warm color.

A Butch Hall flute, a summer sun and a gentle wind on your face. What more could you ask for to be happy ?!

Very beautiful instrument and the wood is amazing quality and Iā€™m glad there is your branding information on it! I also LOVE the fact that you guys put information for Native flute circles in my state! That is the nicest thing!!
