Our concert G minor flute is my personal favorite and is a very versatile contemporary scale. It is a relative Bb major, which is like the horns in an orchestral setting. It’s actually the flute I leave the house with when I can take only one because of its versatility. The finger spread measures 5-5/8″ center-to-center, top to bottom finger hole.
Our concert flutes feature a precision nest under the bird. The nest enhances the performance by giving you a really alive, present voice that can handle big breath extremes. It’s really hard to overblow these flutes, even with a heavy vibrato. These are the famous flutes that you hear on many of today’s native American style flute albums.
Our concert flutes are built using a superior one piece construction method. This gives you a more solid flute without any delamination concerns which some two-piece flutes face. Drilling is also very accurate in as much as I can bore down the center of the flute +/- .002″, or ½ the thickness of a $1 bill. Drilling also makes for a prettier flute without the glue lines.
Our flutes have a 6 hole, extended range tuning. This is sometimes called a Mode 1-Mode 4 tuning. They have a total of 15 notes, covering an octave plus a minor third. They also cover a 12 tone chromatic octave within the 15 note scale. This is the standard tuning used by most flute makers. A finger chart is included with your new flute, showing exactly how to achieve each of the 15 notes.
Our flutes have a hand-rubbed finish that includes four hand sandings, four coats of finish (inside and out) and a final steel wool rub. This process takes over four weeks. You’ll feel and see the difference our finishing effort makes.

Man, do these flutes sound great. After starting with the Little Horse A minor, I decided to go for a couple of Butch’s Concert flutes. While the F# minor reminds me of being in the canyons at twilight, the G minor reminds me of being on top of the mesas, in the sun. It has a clear, bright sound. The G minor is wonderfully versatile. I can play it easily with other instruments, and not a day goes by that I don’t pick it up and just improvise on it. It is capable of mellow, soothing tones, or of louder sounds with a bit of "attitude." I love how clean and elegant Butch’s flutes are. They are beautiful to look at, easy to play, and to me, sound as good as any flutes out there, at considerably lower costs. I love this flute.

I play Butch’s Walnut G Minor, and it’s probably my favorite, go-to NA Flute. Since I’m a long-time, concert flutist and used to a ‘brilliant’ louder, and faster-responding sound, the Walnut suits my playing style just fine! However, I’m fascinated by how the different kinds of woods can create ‘just the sound and mood’ you’re looking for.’ "Kudos, Butch!"…for your consistent craftmanship on these beautiful-sounding, in-tune and reasonably-priced NA Flutes! -Jacki St. Louis, MO

Butch and Laura … Just received my G minor concert flute in cedar. I’m a fan of the elegance of simplicity, and superior craftsmanship. This flute definitely doesn’t disappoint … your obvious attention to detail combined with a lovely piece of wood does all the talking that’s necessary! It has a wonderful soft tone, that just begs to be played, and played, and played some more. Your reputation is well deserved.
Make it a grand day, Carl

I just got my g concert flute and I love it because it is easy and fun to play. I tried about 15 different including 3 other Butch Hall flutes but liked this one the best. I am 10 years old and play flute in band at school but this is my first native American flute.

I have been playing my G Minor Flute I got from Butch Hall in 1998 and it still works great, I play at 5 different Nursing homes in Glen Rose and Granbury all the time, It is time to have a backup one just in case I loose it, One day I was playing my Indian music at a little Town and I hung my flute on a tree when I was loading my stuff and I forgot it and 8 hours later I got looking for it and then I remember I left it in that tree and I knew I would not get it back but I went anyway and there it was still hanging there I said to my self God think you so much for it still been hanging there, That is why I need a backup G miner Indian Flute, I love Butch Hall’s Indian flutes .

Hi Butch, Rachael, and Laura,
I just received my Gm Concert Flute. I just had to let you all know how much I like this flute already. As soon as I opened the package and saw the nicely figured Red Cedar I knew that I made the right decision in choosing one of your flutes. The finish is smooth and feels like velvet in my hands and has an inner glow that accentuates the pretty wood grain.
I was impressed with the metal Bird’s nest and how perfectly it is inletted into the wood leaving an almost seamless appearance. What a great design to keep the contact area in a perfect mating alignment. Im sure it will help with wetting out and of course it provides perfect contact to reduce the amount of air needed to make the flute sing.
Of course the most important thing is how does the flute sound? All I can say is…Perfect! My first note was beautiful and melodious as was the rest of the scale and perfectly in tune according to both my ear and electronic tuner. Perfect pitch with a rich smooth expressive tone… just what I was looking for. It plays wonderfully at very low volume as well as at louder volume.. enough to fill a large room with beautiful music. It allowed me to easily bend notes and add all of the emotion and joy I felt in playing this terrific flute.
There is no question that your flutes are hands down the best value in the world of Native American Flutes..
Thank You for allowing my own spirit to soar through one of your wonderful flutes. I am looking forward to ordering more flutes in the future.

My Butch Hall flute in G minor and eastern red cedar arrived about a week ago. Simple in design, its beauty lies in the rich, warm tones that it produces and the smooth as a baby’s bottom finish. Although it seems to take a little more air to hit the top 2-3 notes, when you do hit it, it is right on. I dealt with Laura through email and phone and it was a very pleasant experience….like talking to an old friend, not a stranger. I highly recommend Butch Hall flutes for your playing and listening pleasure. His pride in craftsmanship and tuning perfection is unsurpassed.
The army man sticker was cute, thanks, Laura and Butch.

`I have been playing my Butch Hall Le Mita Cola Flute for about two years and loving every moment of it. So, have decided to upgrade my musical experience with the Butch Hall Concert Gm Flute. That does not mean I am leaving my Le Mita Cola (my friend – this is its meaning in Lakota language) behind because both models are just perfect for the kind of musical atmosphere one wants to create. A more intimate musical atmosphere ? My choice is Le Mita Cola. A concert like experience? Then, I reach for the Concert Flute. Both models are a must, really. Now, a bit more on the Concert: it has a wider windway area (when compared to the `Le Mita Cola´) with its anodized metal nest that gives the flute its outstanding deep and beautiful voice, perfect articulation and intonation throughout its range, 100% reliability on every single note (never to squeak), wonderful fluency and at last but not least, it is beautiful like heaven. Impossible to put it down once I start playing it. Thank you Butch and Laura for enriching our lives with your Flutes!´

Hi Laura & Butch,
Thank you so much for sending the flute! I received it last Friday
and played it immediately. It is so much more than I expected.
I have been wanting a flute for many years now, ever since I got
one for UW-Stout in Menomonie, WI, where I taught. Colleen
Hannifin, a friend and music store owner from Eau Claire, WI, found one from
someone she knew and it was a red aromatic cedar. Just days
ago, I decided to call her but then remembered Peter Phippen who
I had met through Colleen and who came to UW-Stout to give a
presentation about his flute collection and to play for us
So I looked up Peter online and saw that he endorses your flutes.
My panicked search was over. I need not do any more looking. At first
I thought the quality of flute might be far above my budget, but to
my surprise, they were right in line with what I was looking for!
I absolutely love the sound of the flute in G. Two weeks ago I didn’t
even know what key I wanted. Although I like to play for myself, I wanted
a flute that I could play with other instruments.
And besides, it is so BEAUTIFUL! I can’t tell you how thrilled I am to
have one of your precious flutes!
Many, many thanks! I will be sharing its beauty with many children and
adults alike. I am the music director of a Methodist Church and I also
have been drumming with a drummer who does drum circles with all
sorts of people and locations: dementia and Alzheimer patients, disabled
adults, assisted living, companies and schools.
I am so blessed to have this amazing instrument!

This is a thank you to Paul/Cloudsonfire and Butch & Laura Hall for my beautiful G Minor flute. The sound is awesome. I have played a silver flute my whole life and I love it, but my new G Minor Butch Hall flute has the sound of the earth resonating in every note. I just love it.
Sincerely,
Hope Kiah

I received a Butch Hall G minor in Bocote as an early birthday gift last week, and I am thrilled! I have been playing Native American style flutes for around 16 years, and this latest flute by Butch is probably the best player of my whole collection. Everything about this flute, from the look and feel to the tone, is just…perfect. I’ve never had a flute made of Bocote before, so didn’t know what to expect, but it’s an awesome wood: very dense and took Butch’s signature finish beautifully. One thing I didn’t expect was that when I play this flute I can actually feel the vibrations of the wood in my fingertips–really an "alive" sound and feel. Can’t wait for the weather to warm up so I can play outside… but probably be doing some recording before then! Thanks again, Butch and Laura, for all you do!

My Butch Hall G minor in curly maple is my go to native American style flute. Perfectly in tune with other instruments. The voice is clear and true. I own every key that Butch Hall flutes make, and I give these flutes my highest endorsement. When I play native American style flute, I’m playing a Butch Hall instrument.

Hi Laura,
I just received my flute safe and sound… and WHAT A SOUND INDEED! First the craftsmanship is incredible (pictures don’t do it justice). I was amazed immediately at the upgrade in quality of tone, accuracy, and range compared to my Coyote Oldman 5 hole flute I’ve had since the 80’s. I feel inadequate to the quality of this instrument but it sure will motivate this ‘old dog’ to practice practice practice as that old joke goes ( Guy asks a cab driver in NY how to get to Julliard… “Practice practice practice” says the cabbie) . What a pleasure to play.
My only complaint… it was so hard to continue playing because I was smiling so much every time I heard the tone of this wonderful instrument!
Finally I want to say thank you personally for your incredible customer support. I manage the support team at Universal Audio ( LA-2As…Apollo interfaces…etc ) and I am very impressed with your professional and helpful interaction with me during the whole process. Very quick replies and very friendly and empathic to my needs.
Bless you and your family and I hope you stay safe and healthy.
Regards,
Dan Becker

Dear Butch and Laura,
Just a note to let you know my G Minor Concert Cedar flute arrived safely yesterday. I couldn’t be more satisfied, thank you.
This flute is EXACTLY what I was seeking. It sings with the pure, doleful and sweet cedar voice that first drew me to this instrument through the early works of Nakai. I do own and play several hardwood native flutes–which have their own unique voices and virtues–but the Butch Hall Concert Cedar flute is an indispensable classic instrument that delivers the plaintive and soft (yet focused) signature tone of the indigenous flute of the Americas. It is beautifully simple of construction, well-tuned, and made to a high standard of craftsmanship, without all of the decorative bling-bling that can make other flutes so expensive. As a musician, I am after sound first, and playability, both of which this instrument delivers in abundance, at a most reasonable cost. I would not hesitate to concertize or record with this flute.
Thanks,
Timothy
