Our Little Bird flutes feature an all-wood construction with easy to reach hole spacing, measuring 4-5/16″, center-to-center, top to bottom finger hole. They use a superior one piece construction method. This gives you a more solid flute without any delamination concerns which some two-piece flutes face. Drilling is also very accurate in as much as I can bore down the center of the flute +/- .002″, or ½ the thickness of a $1 bill. Drilling also makes for a prettier flute without the glue lines.
Our flutes have a 6 hole, extended range tuning. This is sometimes called a Mode 1-Mode 4 tuning. They have a total of 15 notes, covering an octave plus a minor third. They also cover a 12 tone chromatic octave within the 15 note scale. This is the standard tuning used by most flute makers. A finger chart is included with your new flute, showing exactly how to achieve each of the 15 notes.
Our flutes have a hand-rubbed finish that includes four hand sandings, four coats of finish (inside and out) and a final steel wool rub. This process takes over four weeks. You’ll feel and see the difference our finishing effort makes.

I purchased the Little Bird flute for our 5 year old son for Christmas as he had fallen in love with my Little Horse flute that I had purchased a few months prior. As we home school, I thought this would be a great way to integrate a non-threatening musical instrument into our curriculum. And now, "flute time" is Noah’s favorite part of the school day! The Little Bird is beautiful and perfect for little hands. He is an average sized 5 year old and is able to cover the holes after only a few days of practice. And don’t be fooled by the price! This is a high quality flute… the craftmanship and the tone are AMAZING! And I have to add, their customer service is phenomenal. Both of the flutes I have ordered from them have arrived thoroughly and carefully wrapped along with a handwritten thank you note!

The Little Bird is my third flute, my first from Butch Hall and family. Had a Butch Hall Flute been my first, I would own no other maker’s flutes. It is better made and easier to play than my other two, one of the other two cost about five times as much as the Little Bird.
Playing the Little Bird has made playing the other two easier even though they are more difficult to play. I will be buying a F#minor concert series from Butch in the near future.
The handling and shipping were quick and efficient. They included info on flute lessons and Flute Circles in my area.

Little Bird reached me here in Brazil after a long migration of fifty-three days. And I must say I am fully happy and satisfied with its singing voice.
Little Bird has a beautiful voice and is so gentle and easy to play. I believe it does not matter whether one is five or ninety-five, Little Bird can be played by everyone really. Its finish is superb, it is accurate in tuning and articulation and has a full but gentle tone.

I wrote my first review on Little Bird about three years ago.
It happens that my brand new Little Bird (yes, one more) reached me today and I find it compulsory to write another review on it because the Little Bird that I have in my hands now has the sound and feel of a Concert Bm Butch Hall Flute.
Well, Butch Hall does not make Concert Bm Flutes, yet my new Little Bird plays and sounds and feels like my Concert Gm Butch Hall Flute only that in Bm.
That meaning it has perfect tuning and articulation, great fluency and a most beautiful singing voice, a beautiful finish and the delicious smell of the eastern red cedar plus that kind of pinkish color to the wood that only Nature can create.
Definitely, one cannot go wrong with these guys. The Butch Hall team is just like wine: getting better and better as times goes by.

I did not have a B minor flute and this was one of the most reasonably priced flutes I could buy. I am very pleasantly surprised with the quality of the flute. The smell of the cedar is wonderful and the construction is top notch. It is tuned very well and I am enjoying my time with it. I am considering purchasing more from this manufacturer. I cannot tell you about the visual aesthetics of this flute because I am blind; but it feels really nice in my hands. So, it sounds great and feels good and that’s what counts to me. I would strongly recommend this as a great starter flute.

I’ve been a flutist for 44 years. This is my first Butch Hall flute. I was in Sedona with my son and his family. I was in a shop playing the Little Bird. I heard my grandson call me. I kept playing and turned around. His expression brought me to tears. My son slipped away and purchased the Little Bird. I found it on my plow when I went to bed!!

Just received the Little Bird flute. It was well packed and shipped very fast. We were very impressed with the workmanship and the tone was unbelievable at the price point.
Both of us have smaller hands and arthritis so the hole spacing is absolutely perfect, the frustration is all gone. Highly recommended.
